Like popcorn, nuna beans burst and pop open when exposed to heat; the effect is less explosive and popped beans expand only about x2 times the dry bean size. These nuna beans were grown and taken care of in the Andean mountains at over 2,700 meters above sea level.

You cook dry nuna beans the same way as making popcorn: in the microwave, the stove-top with little oil, or air poppers. Below you’ll find instructions on how to pop them in the microwave, a faster and recommended method. You can also prepare nuna beans by soaking and boiling just as with any other dry bean.

MICROWAVE POPPING INSTRUCTIONS:

1. POUR ½ cup / 125 mL nuna beans into a 1.4L (1.5QT) microwave safe bowl
2.  PLACE in microwave oven and cover with plate or lid
3.  POP on High or 100% Power for 1:30 minutes or until popping slows to 2 to 3 seconds between pops.
WARNING: Do not overcook as beans will scorch.  Bowl and beans are VERY HOT!
4. 

GENTLY REMOVE hard shell from popped beans, sprinkle salt or your favourite seasoning and Enjoy!

It is normal for some beans to remain unpopped. If you are using the microwave as a cooking method, you can try and repop unpopped beans up to two times as above described. Do not attempt to repop beans if you are using the stovetop or air poppers.
